Northside Brass Quintet
Founded in 2011 by DePaul University School of Music alumnus Ryan Hobbs, Northside Brass Quintet has become one of Chicago’s most beloved chamber ensembles. Dedicated to promoting and preserving the beauty of chamber music, the group regularly performs recitals, masterclasses, and tours that inspire and captivate audiences of all ages. Northside Brass is deeply committed to giving back to the community through music. As part of their charitable initiatives, the ensemble offers free concerts to underserved schools, veteran’s organizations, and senior citizen communities.
In October 2024, Northside Brass released their second album, Christmas Carols for Brass Vol. 2. This album was a follow up to the 2019 release of their critically acclaimed album Christmas Carols for Brass, which was ranked #8 on WFMT Classical Radio Chicago’s “Top 10 Christmas Albums of 2019.” Both albums, filled with timeless holiday favorites, are available on Apple Music, Spotify, and in hard copy, making it a perfect addition to the holiday season.
“Northside Brass Quintet is arguably the finest brass quintet in Chicago. Their impeccable intonation, seamless blend, and exceptional musicality set them apart. With innovative programming and creative use of unique spaces, they elevate any concert hall or event to an extraordinary experience. Bravo!”
Robert Beatty- Organist and Music Director- St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Chicago.
Transform Spaces with Sound
We believe in bringing classical music to life in the most unexpected places. From parks and public squares to shelters and community centers, Northside Brass ventures beyond traditional concert halls to reach new audiences. Our performances in these non-traditional spaces are more than just concerts; they are a bridge to cultural enrichment for individuals who might not otherwise experience the joy of live classical music.
Outreach and Education
A Core of Our Mission
Each year, Northside Brass Quintet organizes an array of outreach activities designed to inspire and educate:
- Public Chamber Concerts: We host three major concerts annually, featuring innovative repertoire aimed at captivating new followers of classical music.
- Educational Concerts for Students: In partnership with schools across Illinois, especially those in underserved areas, we provide free educational concerts that educate and inspire the next generation.
- Concerts for Senior Communities: Our performances at senior living facilities like Bria Senior Living bring joy and nostalgia to those who treasure music from their past.
- Support for the Homeless: By performing at shelters and food kitchens, including the Hammond City Shelter, we offer solace and encouragement through music.
- Honoring Veterans: We provide solemn musical tributes at military funerals, playing Taps to honor those who have served.
